GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University running back Jordon Shippy and golfer Katie Tomassoni have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week.
Shippy, a junior from Gaffney, South Carolina, rushed for a school record 258 yards in Tusculum's 37-10 win over Limestone College in Friday's South Atlantic Conference opener. Shippy breaks the previous record of 250 yards achieved by Isaac Robinson in 2015 against Brevard College.
Shippy ran for three touchdowns, which are tied for the fourth-most in school history. His 279 all-purpose yards on Friday are tied for the fourth-most in the TU record book. He is leading the conference in rushing, averaging a league-best 125 yards per game.
Tomassoni, a senior from Mason, Ohio, sank a four-foot putt for par on the first playoff hole to repeat as medalist at the Bob Dibble Classic. Tomassoni captured her third collegiate individual title as she posted a two-day score of 71-75=146 as the Pioneers captured the Dibble Classic for a fourth consecutive year and sixth overall Fall Classic title.
Her opening day 71 tied a tournament record for lowest first round score and is tied for the ninth-lowest 18-hole tally in school history. Her 36-hole score of 146 is tied for sixth in Pioneer history. Tomassoni lowered her career stroke average to 78.12, which is the third-best in program history.
The Tusculum University Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Zaxby's, located at 3280 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville. The Zaxby's Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
