GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum men's lacrosse attack Chris Ryan and women's tennis standout Katarina Majorova have been named the Bojangles Athletes of the Week.
Ryan, a senior from Old Bridge, New Jersey, tied the program single-game record of seven points with five goals and two assists as the Tusculum men's lacrosse team defeated Shorter 24-7 last Friday night at Pioneer Field. Ryan's five goals tied his career high, while his seven points equaled the school record that has been set six other times, including twice by Ryan. He scored four times in the first half as the Pioneers built an 8-3 lead at halftime.
Ryan's performance boosted his career totals to 84 goals and 29 assists for 113 points, ranking him second in program history in both goals and points and fourth in assists. Ryan is also third on the program's all-time list with nine career man-up goals.
Majorova, a sophomore from Martin, Slovakia, who is ranked 12th in Division II in singles by the ITA, defeated 41st-ranked Felicia Baratta of North Georgia by a 6-1, 6-3 score at number-one singles as the Pioneers beat the 22nd-ranked Nighthawks 7-2 on Saturday. Majorova and Franziska Funke also teamed for a 9-8 (7-5) win at flight two doubles as the Pioneers improved to 4-0 on the season by winning their spring opener.
Majorova, who was named South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year last season and first-team All-Conference in both singles and doubles, is off a 2-0 start in singles and has a 3-0 record in doubles, boosting her career singles record to 17-7 and her doubles mark to 24-7.
The Tusculum College Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Bojangles, located at 3240 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville. The Bojangles Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
