Cervantes, Born named Bojangles Athletes of the Week

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum soccer midfielder Edgar Cervantes and volleyball outside hitter Cassie Born have been named the Bojangles Athletes of the Week.                           

Cervantes scored three goals and added an assist as the Tusculum men's soccer team picked up a win and a draw last week to stay in the thick of the South Atlantic Conference playoff race. Cervantes scored in the sixth minute and assisted on a first-half goal from Jonny Winter in a 2-2 draw with Carson-Newman last Wednesday. On Saturday, the freshman from Cancun, Mexico scored in the fifth and 24th minutes of a 3-1 win at Catawba.

Born averaged 4.50 kills and 2.90 digs per set in leading Tusculum to a 3-0 record last week, including a pair of 3-0 SAC home wins.  Born opened the week with 13 kills and 13 digs in a 3-1 road win at King to complete the season-sweep over the Tornado.  She followed with back-to-back 16-kill performances in 3-0 wins over Lenoir-Rhyne and Catawba.  She hit .400 against the Bears and posted a .303 average in the win vs Catawba.  She also posted 10 digs against the Catawba Indians.

The Horse Shoe, North Carolina junior finished the week with 45 kills, 29 digs, eight blocks and two assists in the three wins.
