WISE, Va. --- The Tusculum College women's tennis team opened the 2015 fall campaign with a 9-0 sweep of UVa-Wise on Monday afternoon in Wise, Va. Kealee Heffner and Erin Mills picked up wins in the top two singles flights.

Heffner defeated Daria Tyshchenko (6-2, 6-1) in the top spot while Mills was victorious over Bailey Christoforato by a 6-0, 6-1 score in the second spot. Franziska Funke won her season debut over Haley Thacker 6-0, 6-0 in the third position.

Freshman Jule Brass swept Marti Gay 6-0, 6-0 in her Tusculum (1-0) debut. Sarah Baker beat Mackenzie Lawson (6-3, 6-1) in the fifth flight while Emily Waters won her first match of the season over Junetta Nuckels (6-1, 6-1) in the sixth position.

Heffner and Funke teamed together in the top doubles flight and defeated the Cavalier (1-1) duo of Christoforato and Tyshchenko 8-1. Amanda Sumner and Adrienne Kaye beat Nuckels and Lawson (8-2) in the second spot while Mills and Waters earned the victory over Gay and Hill (8-1) in the third spot.

The win was the first for Tusculum interim head coach Ted Hensley who took over for Tommy Arnett who retired after a 14-year stint at TC and 486 career wins.

The Pioneers will be back in action next Saturday in Harrogate, Tennessee at the Lincoln Memorial Fall Invitational.
