McCullough repeats as Google Cloud Academic All-District honoree

DALLAS, Texas --- Tusculum University tennis player Annie McCullough has been named to the 2019 Google Cloud NCAA Division II Academic All-District 3 Women's At-Large first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

McCullough earns Academic All-District honors for a second straight year and advances to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot with the winners being announced in June.  The Academic All-District 3 team is selected from nominees representing all colleges and universities in the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and Peach Belt Conference.

The Google Cloud Academic All-America® At-Large program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew, beach volleyball and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.

McCullough, a junior from Belfast, Northern Ireland, has a cumulative grade point average of 3.98 while majoring in chemistry.  She is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List, President's List, Charles Oliver Gray Honors List and is an ITA Scholar Athlete.

McCullough swept the South Atlantic Conference's top women's tennis honors as she was named the SAC Player of the Year and Scholar Athlete of the Year becoming only the third player in league history to achieve the feat.

She is a three-time All-SAC selection in singles and a two-time first team honoree in doubles with her twin sister Caitlin.  The McCulloughs are ranked 22nd nationally in doubles as the duo is 26-4 overall this season including 19-3 in dual matches.  Annie owns a 27-5 singles mark this season including 18-4 in dual competition and went a perfect 10-0 in league play.  She is ranked 33rd in the country in ITA singles and has improved her career singles record to an impressive 63-9 overall.

McCullough was named the Tusculum Female Athlete of the Year for a second straight season.  She was also tabbed as the ITA Southeast Region Player to Watch.

The Pioneers finished the season with a 17-4 overall record including 10-0 in league play to capture Tusculum's its sixth SAC Championship and first since 2010.  TU finished runner-up at the SAC Tournament and earned a berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament for a third consecutive year and 11th time in program history.

The Google Cloud Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
