HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. --- The Tusculum University women's golf team shot 319 and is tied for seventh after day one action of the Battle at Hilton Head which is being conducted on the par 72, 5,934-yard Robert Trent Jones-Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort.
The Pioneers are seventh in the 21-team field as Florida Tech took the first round lead with its 297 and are eight shots ahead of second place Anderson (305). Carson-Newman is third with 308, followed by Columbus State (310), Lenoir-Rhyne (315) and Missouri-St. Louis (316). Tusculum and Rogers State are tied for seventh at 319, followed by Henderson State (324), Mount Olive (325), Converse (325), Queens (326), Barton (330), Lincoln Memorial (330), King (331), Merrimack (334), Davenport (338), Southern Wesleyan (342), Belmont Abbey (343), Southern New Hampshire (347) and Chowan (418).
Tusculum freshman Julia Johansson posted team-best round of 78 and is tied for 24th place. Senior Katie Tomassoni is tied for 30th with 79, while Jacque Butler and Olivia Cunningham are tied for 42nd place with their rounds of 81. Lauryn Munn posted a 91 and is tied for 98th.
Anderson's Tiffany Elam shot a two-under par 70 and has the first day lead and is two strokes in front of Florida Tech's Hailey Ko, who posted a 72 playing as an individual competitor.
The final round will be played on Tuesday.
