Six Pioneers named NTCA All-Academic Scholar Athletes

NACOGDOCHES, Texas --- Six Tusculum University women's bowling student-athletes have been honored as All-Academic Scholar Athletes by the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA).

Garnering honors are Erin Burkart, Samantha England, Shayna Long, Savannah Price, Allison Robbins and Alexa Tieto.

Tieto, a junior from Ocean, New Jersey, earns her third straight NTCA All-Academic accolade. The 2022 All-Conference Carolinas bowler finished the regular-season with a 183.7 average and was also 10th in the conference with her overall fill percentage of 18.73 per frame (10th in CC). She was also 12th in individual frame fill percentage (76.5%). Her 18.994 fill percentage in traditional format games was tops on the team and fifth-best in the league. She also led the squad in traditional games with her 79.1 fill percentage (9th in CC). Her overall strike percentage (40.9%) was seventh in the conference and was 15th with her 80.2 single pin spare percentage.

Burkart, a senior from Marerro, Louisiana, returns to the NTCA All-Academic squad for a second straight year. She earned All-Conference Carolinas honors last year where she finished the regular season 12th in the league in overall scoring average (178.0 per game average; 17.795 per frame) and 15th in overall frame fill percentage (75.7%).

England, a junior from White Bluff, Tennessee, garners NTCA All-Academic honors for a third consecutive year. She is also a multi-time member of the TU Athletic Director's Honor Roll as well as a two-time recipient of the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.

Rookies Shayna Long (Lawrenceburg, Tenn.) and Savannah Price (Knoxville, Tenn.) are also making their inaugural appearances as NTCA All-Academic Scholar Athletes.

Student-athletes must have at least a 3.4 cumulative grade point average for the academic school year to qualify for this award.

The Pioneers finished the season with a 46-43 overall record while establishing a new program mark for most wins in a season (46). TU finished the year ranked 13th in the final NCAA Division II/III national poll while posting eight victories against nationally-ranked programs.
