TIGERVILLE, S.C. --- Mia Long scored 20 points while Callie Patterson added 19 markers to rally the Tusculum University women's basketball team to a 68-64 non-conference win at North Greenville University Wednesday afternoon at Hayes Gymnasium.
Tusculum (6-2) overcame a 35-30 halftime deficit as the Pioneers forced 23 turnovers in the game and outscored the Crusaders (3-8) 22-13 in the third quarter including an 8-0 run late in the period to take the lead for good.
TU improves to a perfect 5-0 in non-conference games this season and record their first victory in Tigerville since 2008.
Patterson followed her season-best 21 markers in Sunday's South Atlantic Conference win over Queens University of Charlotte with 19 on Wednesday. And like Saturday, Patterson poured in a career-best five 3-pointers going 5-of-10 from beyond the arc.
Long shot 8-of-14 from the floor to go along with four steals. Kendrea Duke added 15 points and a eight boards while shooting 6-of-9 from and 3-of-4 at the free throw line. Patterson led TU in rebounding with her
NGU was led by Karen Donehew who posted 13 points and a game-high 16 rebounds in the loss.
The Crusaders went 25-of-51 from the floor (49%) including seven 3-pointers while the Pioneers shot 26-of-73 from the floor for 36 percent including 6-of-22 from beyond the arc (27.3%). But while forcing 23 turnovers resulting into 20 points, TU only committed 11 miscues. NGU edged the Pioneers on the boards by a 37-36 margin.
Tusculum concludes the pre-Christmas portion of its schedule and returns home on January 2nd when they host Bluefield State College for a 6 p.m. non-conference tilt at Pioneer Arena.
