NEWBERRY, S.C. --- Ashli Oliver poured in 17 points, including five 3-pointers as the Tusculum College women’s basketball team defeated host Newberry College 62-55 Wednesday night at Eleazer Arena in South Atlantic Conference action.

The Pioneers (13-12, 5-9 SAC) halt a three-game losing streak, while splitting the season series against the Lady Indians (19-5, 8-3 SAC) who are ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Region.

Chassity Martin, Diana Neves and Lindsay Barta each posted 10 points apiece for the Pioneers, while Newberry’s Tonique Frasier posted a double-double with 28 points and 17 rebounds.

Tusculum shot 48.9 percent from the floor, including 10-of-19 (52.6%) from three-point territory.

Tied 29-29 at the half, Tusculum jumped out to a four-point edge to start the second period on Shantae Shank's lay-up at the 17:15 mark. With the score 37-33, neither team could find the bottom of the net for nearly three minutes. Cicely Jenkins’ jumper fell for Newberry and cut the Pioneer lead in half.

The Lady Indians took their first lead of the second half, 41-39, with 12:48 remaining after sophomore Laura Marquardt connected for a deuce.

Newberry was able to hold that lead until the 8:39 mark when Tusculum turned the tide with consecutive three-point shots. Diana Neves drained the first to tie the game at 47-47 and Brooke Underwood hit the second, that coming from 23-feet away with the shot clock running down to give Tusculum the lead for good with 7:48 left.

Junior guard Ashlee Wright had 16 points on 8-of-17 shooting along with five rebounds and three assists off the bench.

Tusculum will be at Presbyterian College Saturday afternoon for a 2 p.m. contest.
