Battle named second-team All-SAC

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University senior outfielder Taylor Battle has been selected second-team All-South Atlantic Conference in softball, the league office announced Thursday.

Battle hit .340 with 17 runs batted in and a team-high 13 stolen bases for the Pioneers, who finished 22-20 overall and 8-12 in the SAC this season. Battle also tied the school single-season record and led the SAC with eight triples, winning the conference statistical championship with 0.19 triples per game.

The Chattanooga native led the SAC with eight triples among her team-high 50 hits. Battle also ranked second on the Pioneers with 23 runs scored and was tied for fourth with 17 runs batted in. Her .340 average was second-best on the team and she was fifth on the squad with a .469 slugging percentage.

Battle, who was selected honorable mention All-SAC in 2018, was a .384 hitter in 20 conference games for the Pioneers, and finished her career by hitting safely in her final 12 games, which was the longest hitting streak of her career.

Battle ended her career with a .303 average, three home runs and 55 runs batted in, and is Tusculum's all-time leader in stolen bases with 63. She is tied for seventh in games played (191), eighth in games started (187), fifth in at-bats (594), tied for eighth in runs (100), tenth in hits (180) and third in triples (19).

Aubrey Reep of Wingate was selected Player of the Year, with Pitcher of the Year honors going to Allison Rager of Carson-Newman. Sierra Hucklebee of Lincoln Memorial was Freshman of the Year, and the Railsplitters' Ritchie Richardson was voted Coach of the Year.
