Pioneers Falter at North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. --- The Tusculum men's volleyball team competed in an unfamiliar arena for the first time this season, matching up with the Crusaders of North Greenville University, and took a set off of the South Carolina team.

The Crusaders (2-1) won by scores of 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 25-14 to win over the Pioneers (1-4).

North Greenville was led offensively by 13 kills from Jackson Gilbert and 26 assists off of the hands of Jake Boldog. Ben Hamsho racked up six service aces, while Gilbert knocked down a trio. Luis Kannee and Hamsho finished with a team-high three digs. At the net, Hamsho netted eight total blocks (one solo, seven assists), followed closely by six (one solo, five assists) from Boldog.

Matteo Miselli collected a career-high 14 kills on an efficient .435 hitting percentage. Lucas Blanco dished out 22 assists, while at the service line, Ivan Sosa and Hunter Walck both added a pair of aces. Mackenzie Scott rounded out the category with one ace as well. Blanco earned the program's first double-double with 10 digs, alongside his many assists. Peter Stewart and Miselli each recorded five digs. Scott is credited with Tusculum's lone solo block, while Sosa, Shaun Kampshoff, Shaphar Grant, Miselli, and Walk registered one block assist individually.

North Greenville ended the match with a .208 hitting percentage with 31 kills and 16 errors in 72 total attempts. TU totaled 32 kills, 24 errors, and 76 swings for a .105 hitting percentage. The Pioneers led the Crusaders in assists (29-28) and digs (24-15), while the home team collected more aces (11-8) and total blocks (11-3).

Tusculum continues its travels in the Carolinas with a stop at Belmont Abbey on Saturday for a 4pm first serve.
