GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's tennis team defeated Emory & Henry University 4-0 in South Atlantic Conference action Tuesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Pioneers (8-10, 6-5 SAC) celebrated Senior Day with a sweep of the Wasps (1-15, 0-12 SAC) for their fourth win in the last five matches.
In doubles, senior Miles Ray teamed with Anton Krondell for a 6-2 win over Niclas Naedele and Leo Knothe, while seniors Nathan West and Felipe Velasquez Quintana earned a 6-1 victory at flight three over Keenan Glago and Nathan Spurling.
In singles play, Krondell defeated Knothe 6-1, 6-1 at flight two, followed by freshman Alex Izquierdo taking a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Alvaro Garcia in his season debut at flight six. Sarthak Sharma clinched the win for Tusculum by beating Glago 6-2, 6-4 at flight five.
Tusculum's fourth senior, Nathan Matsuguma, was part of two unfinished matches as he and Angelos Avgeris led 5-3 in doubles, and he split two sets with Naedele at flight one of singles by scores of 4-6, 6-0.
The Pioneers travel to SAC-leading Catawba for their final regular-season match on Saturday, April 12 at 1:30 p.m. The Indians entered play on Tuesday as the lone undefeated team in conference play with a 9-0 record.
