Pioneers earn 6-1 home victory over King

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University downed King University by a 6-1 score in non-conference men's tennis action at the Nichols Tennis Complex Wednesday afternoon.

Playing in their lone dual match of the fall season, the Pioneers (1-0) won the doubles point via sweep and took five of the six singles matches against the Tornado (0-1).

In doubles, Frank Bonacia and Jacco Mensinga teamed up to beat Benet Schulz and Sebastian Lieflaender 6-4 at flight one, Leon Huck and Gabriel Yaguar defeated Alex Sodre and Ross Edgar 6-4 at flight two, and Tom Dillon teamed with Yago Fernandez for a 6-1 win at flight three over Nathan Snow and Jorge Rojas.

In singles action, Fernandez defeated Arturo Alfaro 6-3, 6-4 at flight three, Manuel Guedes de Almeida beat Lieflaender 6-3, 6-3 at flight four and Huck downed Edgar 6-2, 6-2 at flight five. At flight six, Vadzim Raitsou was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Snow, while David Akinpetide won at flight two when Schulz retired after the first game.

Tusculum will head to Young Harris, Georgia to participate in the three-day Mountain Lion Invitational beginning Friday and continuing through Sunday on the campus of Young Harris College.
