30th-ranked Pioneers earn 6-1 win at Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. --- Tusculum University defeated Mars Hill University 6-1 in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action Wednesday afternoon.

The 30th-ranked Pioneers (11-4, 5-2 SAC) won five of the six singles matches in straight sets against the Lions (6-13, 0-8 SAC), after sweeping all three doubles contests to earn the team point.

In doubles, Tim Klee and Manuel Guedes de Almeida beat Ben Reid and Rodrigo Ramos 6-3 at flight one, Gabriel Yaguar and Tomas Guedes de Almeida defeated Fernando Neto and Kyrel Trim 6-2 at flight two, and Yago Fernandez teamed with Jacco Mensinga for a 6-3 victory over Tom Farman and Pedro Pinassi at flight three.

In singles, Tomas Almeida won 6-0, 6-2 over Ramos at flight two, Fernandez defeated Neto 6-4, 6-4 at flight three and Manuel Almeida was a 6-4, 6-0 winner over Trim at flight four. Yaguar beat Farman 6-0, 6-2 at flight five and Marco Meon won 6-1, 6-0 over Pinassi at flight six.

Tusculum will host fifth-ranked Wingate, the lone unbeaten team in conference play this season, on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
