BRISTOL, Tenn. --- Tusculum University won five of six singles matches to rally for a 5-2 win over King University in non-conference men's tennis action Wednesday afternoon.
The Pioneers (1-0) won each of the first three singles matches to take the lead for good against the Tornado (0-1), who won the doubles point by taking two of the three sets.
In doubles, the Pioneers managed a set win at flight two where Yago Fernandez and David Akinpetide beat Arturo Alfaro and Nathan Snow by a 6-0 score.
In singles, Tusculum tied the match as Lohithaksha Bathrinath beat Charles Jabaley 6-1, 6-3 at flight five. Marco Meon won 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at flight one over Lennard Neumann to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead, and Vadzim Raitsou won at flight two 6-1, 2-0 against the retiring Alejandro Feliciano.
The Tornado pulled to within 3-2 with a three-set win at flight three, but Akinpetide delivered the clincher with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at flight four over Sebastian Lieflaender. Gabriel Yaguar closed out the match with a 7-5 win over Jorge Rojas at flight six.
Tusculum will host Virginia-Wise at noon Sunday at the Greene County Tennis Center.
