JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's golf team posted an opening round score of 286 to take the first day lead at the 2019 Mars Hill Invitational, which is being held at the Johnson City Country Club.
The Pioneers own a six-shot advantage over second place Belmont Abbey College (292) heading into Tuesday's final round.
The Tusculum duo of Bennett Noe and Noah Jones each carded a one-under 71 and are in a five-way tie for second place in the individual standings. Belmont Abbey's Brody Davis shot a three-under par 69 to take the lead. Tusculum's Jeffery Perez and newcomer Mark Healy both filed an even par 72 and are tied for seventh place honors. TU sophomore Kyle Engelbert is within striking distance of the leaders with his 74 and is tied for 12th.
King University is third with 294, while Mars Hill and Milligan are tied for fourth place with 300. Pfeiffer University added 305 and is in sixth place
