Pioneers rally to secure four-peat at Dibble Classic

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's golf team fired an even par team score of 284 in the final round and rally to a one-stroke victory over Walters State to win the 2018 Bob Dibble Classic.

Tusculum finished with a two-day score of 581, one shot better than Walters State's 582 as the Senators posted a final round 287.

The Pioneers win the Dibble Classic for a fourth consecutive year and eighth overall fall classic title.  It was also the first TU tournament victory in the Pioneer coaching debut for Ross Cash.

Emory & Henry finished third with a 36-hole tally of 606 led by tournament medalist Wesley Jones who finished with a four-under 138 including a 68 on Tuesday.

Lincoln Memorial B was four with 607 while Roane State shot 700 to finish fifth.

Individually, Walters State's Alex Hodge finished runner-up with 141 including a 68 in the final round. He posted a birdie and an eagle respectively on the final two holes to match Jones for the low round of the tournament.

Tusculum junior Matt DiBella finished third with 142 as he carded a 70 in the final round which included a birdie on the final putt of the tournament to seal TU's comeback victory.  TU sophomore Liam Sweeney posted a two-day score of 75-70=145, matching Elliott Smith (74-71=145) to tie for fourth place honors and secure the final two spots on the All-Tournament Team.

Tusculum freshman Kyle Engelbert shot 74-72=146 to finish sixth, while Hunter Chandlery secured a top-10 finish as he carded 76-72=148, good enough for ninth place honors.  Freshman Jordan Williams rounded out the team scoring with his 76-72=148.

Playing as individual competitors, sophomore Bennett Noe finished 15th with 77-75=152 while John Bennett placed 22nd with 80-87=167.

The Pioneers will be on the road next week (Sep. 17-18) for the Kiawah Island Invitational.
