ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum senior Taylor Smith has been named to the 2017 All-South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Team announced league officials Friday.
Smith, a native of Gray, Tennessee, garnered honorable mention recognition posting a team-best 73.38 scoring average where he has logged five top-10 finishes including three times in the top-five. He had a run earlier in the season where he carded six consecutive rounds below par as well as a score of 70 on four straight occasions. His stroke average is currently the eighth-lowest in a TC single-season, while his six sub-par rounds are the sixth-most by a Pioneer.
He posted a four-under par total of 70-70=140 to win medalist honors at the Etowah Intercollegiate. Smith followed that with 70-70=140 (-2) to finish fourth at the Tusculum Fall Classic. He tied for sixth place with a 54-hole total of 71-70-73=214 at the State Farm Intercollegiate. His 214 is tied for the fourth-lowest 54-hole score in school history.
Smith's 75.34 career stroke average is currently the seventh lowest in program history. His 13 career sub-par rounds are the sixth-most by a Pioneer while his 66.5 career rounds played are the 13th-most in school history.
Smith and the Pioneers will be competing at the South Atlantic Conference Championship in Salisbury, North Carolina beginning with Sunday's opening round. The second round will be played on Monday with the final round slated for Tuesday at the Country Club of Salisbury.
Tusculum won the SAC Championship two years ago with Smith earning SAC All-Tournament accolades with his ninth place finish.
This year's SAC Championship event will be the final conference tournament for long-time Tusculum head coach Bob Dibble, who will be retiring next month after 28 years at the helm of the Pioneer program.
