Moore second, Pioneers third after day one of LMU Collegiate Challenge

 

HARROGATE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University's Tyler Moore is in second place in the individual standings while the Pioneers are third in the team competition after day one of the 2021 LMU Collegiate Challenge. The two-day, six-team event is being hosted by Lincoln Memorial University and held at Hillcrest Lanes.

Moore totaled 1,069 total pins in Saturday's five games for a 213.8 average. He bowled a 278 in Saturday's third game which was the top individual performance of the tournament. He would finish strong with a 248 in his fifth and final game and finished 39 pins behind individual leader David Hooper of Emmanuel College.

Emmanuel has the team lead with 5,048 pins, while host LMU is second with 4,785. Tusculum is third with 4,691, followed by Belmont Abbey College (4364), Union (Ky.) College (4338) and Bellarmine University (3755).

TU's Justin Byrd accounted for the second-best performance of the Pioneers with his 955 (191.0 avg), which is 13th in the tournament. Byrd bowled 209 in his fourth game and opened Saturday's action with a 203.

Gabe Taulbee is 15th in Saturday's standings with 925 pins and a 185.0 average including a 196 in his final game of the day. Bryan McLeod is 17th with 916 (183.2 avg) for his five-game tally. Toney Franklin is 36th with 357 total pins (178.5 avg) in his two games, while Brandon Wolfe also bowled in two contests and finished with 321 (160.5 avg) for 37th place. Jared Vermillion rounded out the TU scoring with his 148 (1 game - 148.0 avg) and is 41st.

Sparked by Moore's 278, Tusculum bowled a team score of 1,054 in its third game of the day which would end up being the second-best team score in the tournament. Emmanuel seized the day one lead with a Saturday-best 1,086 in the final game of the afternoon.

The tournament will conclude on Sunday.
