Martin, Hall named to NCBWA All-Southeast Region baseball team

WINGATE, N.C. --- Tusculum University's Daulton Martin and Charles Hall have been named to the 2019 NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Team as selected by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

Martin garnered All-Region first team accolades at second base while Hall was selected as a second team starting pitcher on the All-Region squad.  Martin is a NCBWA first teamer for a second consecutive year, while Hall makes is inaugural appearance on the NCBWA All-Region team.

Martin, a junior from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, is a three-time All-South Atlantic Conference selection and led the Pioneers with his .362 batting average while also topping the league with his 22 doubles (T6th in NCAA II) and 52 walks (3rd in NCAA II).  He also led Tusculum with his eight home runs, 112 totals bases, .633 slugging percentage, .518 on-base percentage (18th in NCAA II) and five sacrifice flies.

The 2018 NCBWA All-American accounted for 15 multiple-hit games while also going 17-of-22 in stolen bases and was hit by pitch 11 times.  In his 153-game career with the Pioneers, Martin is batting .384 which is the ninth-highest in school history.  He is also listed throughout the TU record book where his 54 career doubles are tied for the most in program history.  He is fifth all-time in hits (214), fifth in triples (11), seventh in RBI (129), third in total bases (338), second in walks (105), fifth in hit by pitch (26) and second in career on-base percentage (.498).

Hall posted a 6-3 record and continues to lead the nation in strikeouts with 148.  The 2019 SAC Pitcher of the Year finished the season with a 2.31 earned run average which was the second lowest in the league and 41st in NCAA Division II.

Hall leads the conference with his 89.2 innings pitched as he tossed two complete games and notched a 14.86 strikeouts per nine innings pitched which is the fourth-best average in the country.

On March 15 of this season, Hall established a new NCAA II national record with his 22 strikeouts against Queens University of Charlotte.  For his efforts, he was named the NCBWA Division II National Pitcher of the Week.  In his 13 starts, he posted 10 or more strikeouts on 10 occasions and was tabbed SAC and Region Pitcher of the Week, twice each.

In his two seasons at Tusculum, Hall posted a 10-6 record with two saves and a 3.26 ERA which is ninth in the TU record book.  His 219 career strikeouts are fourth in school history while pitching in 163 career innings.

The Dumfries, Virginia native graduated from Tusculum last Saturday and majored in business IT. He is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List.

Martin and Hall were also both tabbed to the Division II Conference Commissioner's All-Region first team earlier this month.
