Tusculum racks up 17 hits in 13-4 win at Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. --- The Tusculum Pioneers pounded out 17 hits and Charles Hall had another solid outing in TU's 13-4 South Atlantic Conference win over Anderson University Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

The Pioneers (25-14, 12-4 SAC) had 11 different players record at least a single as Trey Hinton led the way with three hits while Nate Montgomery, Jarel McDade, Wes Reynolds and Zack Finchum all accounted for two hits each in the victory.  Since starting the season 1-7, the Pioneers have won 24 of their last 31 games.

Hall (6-1) had another outstanding start as he tossed 6.2 innings, scattered four hits while allowing two runs with three walks and eight strikeouts, snapping his remarkable run of eight consecutive outings with 10 more strikeouts.

The Trojans (12-24, 3-13 SAC) scored the first run of the game as they mounted a two-out rally in the first inning as Castleberry drew a walk and Odachowski followed with a base hit.  Overton came through with a two-out single to center to drive in Castleberry with the game's first run.

TU responded with 13 unanswered runs scoring twice in the second inning, four times in the fourth three in the sixth and four more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

In the second inning, Garrett Dupuis drove in a run with a RBI ground out and Reynolds drove in McDade with a sacrifice fly as the Pioneers led 2-1.

In Tusculum four-run fourth, Finchum provided the big hit of the frame with his three-run double to right center to put the Pioneers up 5-1.  Ford later drove in Finchum with a sacrifice fly to a 6-1 Tusculum advantage.

Ford belted his second triple of the season to drive in Daulton Martin and Finchum, while Montgomery brought home Ford with his RBI single to left field for a 9-1 lead.

Four more runs crossed the plate in the seventh with Seth DeHaven driving in two with his base hit to left while Montgomery and Hinton followed with RBI singles to cap the TU scoring.

Anderson starter John McMicking (1-6) suffered the loss as he went the opening 3.1 innings where he allowed six hits, six runs, four walks and a strikeout.

The two teams will wrap up the three-game weekend series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
