Ashton Hippenstiel was named the first women's beach volleyball head coach in Tusculum history on Nov. 6, 2017.

In its first season as Tusculum's 21st sport, the program finished with a 10-15 record during 2018-19. The Pioneers beat Principia 5-0 in their inaugural match on Feb. 1, 2019 and faced a challenging schedule that included 11 matches against Division I programs. The Pioneers picked up their first-ever win against a DI opponent with a 3-2 win over Eastern Kentucky on March 30, 2019. Tusculum also had a perfect 5-0 record against rival Carson-Newman in their first season.

Hippenstiel also serves as the assistant coach for Tusculum's indoor women's volleyball program, a post he assumed in 2015.

Hippenstiel, a native of Yucaipa, California, possesses a wealth of coaching experience at both the collegiate and club level and is a former NCAA Division I and II player where he was setter at Cal State Northridge and King University.  During his final season at King, he ranked 30th in the country with his 6.99 assists per set average while leading the Tornado with his 610 total helpers.  He led KU with 75 blocks and his 0.85 blocks per set average ranked ninth in Conference Carolinas.

Hippenstiel has been coaching at the club level for seven years and is a member of the Match Point AVCA Mentee Program. 

He graduated from King in 2014 with his Bachelor of Arts degree and is completing his master’s degree in talent development from Tusculum.

He is married to the former Briana Branson of Bluff City, Tennessee and they are the proud parents of two sons, Karter and Korbin.
