Welcome to the March 2018 issue of #PIONEERUPDATE, the monthly newsletter of the Tusculum Pioneer Club. #PIONEERUPDATE is provided exclusively to Pioneer Club members prior to being posted on our social media platforms, giving you a first look at what’s happening in Tusculum Athletics.
The Pioneer Club campaign has generated over $120,000 in cash gifts from 239 members with three months remaining in the 2017-2018 fiscal year. In addition, the Pioneer Club has generated over $62,000 in gift-in-kind donations this fiscal year. The Club is looking for 81 more members to join before June 30, 2018 to help reach our membership goal of 320 members. If you have not joined the Pioneer Club this year, we respectfully ask that you consider becoming a member to support our student-athletes.
Our biggest facility project continues to be the Tusculum Field of Dreams Project. We have been, and will continue, approaching student-athlete alumni, businesses, foundations, and friends of Tusculum Athletics for financial support of this endeavor. Donors to this project will be recognized as members of our Pioneer Club. For those of you interested in finding out more information on this project, please contact Blake Cantrell at bcantrell@tusculum.edu or 423-636-7331. Other facility projects expected to be completed within the next six months include a new batting cage for Tusculum Softball and a complete renovation of the Roger M. Nichols Tennis Complex.
Our success is directly linked to our loyal Pioneer Club members and the great supporters of Tusculum and Pioneer Athletics. With your generous financial commitments, we are able to provide our student-athletes with a first-class experience.

J.T. Burton named Tusculum men's basketball coach
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- James Tyler "J.T." Burton has been named the men's basketball coach at Tusculum College announced vice president of student success and athletics Doug Jones. Coach Burton will be introduced to the Tusculum community at a press conference on Thursday in the Board Room of the Meen Center for Science and Mathematics beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Burton becomes 28th men's basketball coach at Tennessee's most historic college and the seventh head coach during the NCAA Division II era of the program.

Guervil finishes fourth in 60 meters at NCAA Championship
PITTSBURG, Kan. --- Tusculum freshman sprinter Widchard Guervil finished fourth in the men's 60-meter dash at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at the Robert W. Plaster Center on the campus of Pittsburg State University.

SPARKS, Md. --- For a fifth consecutive week, the Tusculum men's lacrosse team is receiving votes in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division II Poll.

Plemons named AstroTurf SAC Softball Pitcher of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum's Taylor Plemons has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week announced league officials.
Plemons earns her first SAC weekly honor of her career and becomes the first Tusculum pitcher to be recognized by the league since Elizabeth Johnson in 2013.

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum sophomore Katarina Majorova has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending March 11, announced by the SAC office.

Pioneers picked seventh in SAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Poll
ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The Tusculum men's outdoor track & field team has been picked to finish seventh at the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Championship announced league officials Friday. The Pioneers received 55 total points in a vote of the conference's 11 head coaches.

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The Tusculum women's outdoor track & field team has been picked to finish ninth at the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Championship announced league officials Friday. The Pioneers garnered 36 total points in a vote of the conference's head coaches.

Tusculum women move up to 32nd in Golfstat rankings
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. --- The Tusculum women's golf team is listed 32nd in the nation according to the Golfstat NCAA Division II rankings.
The Pioneers have posted top-five finishes in six of its seven events this season, including last week's runner-up performance at the Lincoln Memorial Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate.

Guervil, Guerrero named Applebee's Student-Athletes of the Month for February
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum track sprinter Widchard Guervil and softball outfielder Delaney Guerrero have been named the Applebee's Student-Athletes of the Month for February. Guervil earns this honor for a second straight month, while Guerrero hauls in his first Applebee's accolade.
