GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University baseball first baseman Luis Ezra and softball outfielder Anna Alloway have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week.
Ezra, a junior from Miami, Florida, batted .523 with two home runs and 10 RBI to lead the Pioneer baseball team to a perfect 5-0 week including a weekend sweep over defending Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference west division champion Gannon University.
Ezra went 7-for-13 with two doubles, two homers and 10 RBI. He opened the week going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in TU's 9-4 non-conference win at Carson-Newman. He went 4-for-8 in the Gannon series where he tallied a pair of doubles, seven RBI and drew four walks while striking out only once during the week.
Ezra leads the Pioneers with 16 RBI this season, which are the most in the South Atlantic Conference while his three home runs are tied for second in the league. He is also second in the SAC in walks (11) and seventh in runs scored (11).
Alloway, a junior from Louisville, Tennessee, went 6-for-12 at the plate including two home runs and four RBI as the TU softball team went 2-2 at the Bearcat/Fleet Invitational. In Tusculum's 7-5 win over Belmont Abbey, she went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI and scored twice. She also went 2-for-3 with a walk against Lander. She later followed with a pair of hits including a two-run homer in the eighth inning to drive in the winning runs in the Pioneers' 4-2 win over host Erskine.
Alloway leads the South Atlantic Conference in hitting with her .591 average. She is also tops in the conference in on-base percentage (.710), second in home runs (3), third in RBI (12) and fourth in walks (8). TU softball is off to a 6-2 start to the season.
