GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University golfer Jeffery Perez and volleyball middle blocker Taylor Blythe have been named the Applebee's Student-Athletes of the Month for September.
Perez, a junior from Rock Island, Illinois, posted a 69.0 scoring average and led the TU men's golf team to back-to-back runner-up performances in their first two tournaments of the fall campaign.
He carded a seven-under par 137 to win medalist honors at the Mars Hill Invitational. He fired a final round 65 to claim first place as TU lost in a team playoff. His 65 is tied for the second lowest round in program history while his 36-hole total of 137 is tied for 10th in the TU record book.
Perez followed with a 139 at the King Invitational to claim third place honors. He opened with a 71 and followed with a 68 to garner All-Tournament honors for a second straight tournament.
Blythe, a sophomore from Seymour, Tennessee, posted a South Atlantic Conference-best .388 hitting percentage in her 12 matches as the Pioneers went 6-6 overall and 4-3 in league play as TU closed out the month winning five of their final seven contests.
Blythe is averaging 1.77 kills per set and a team-best 0.95 blocks per set. She has been a model of consistency hitting over .300 in all but one of her outings. She tallied a season-best 11 kills in just 18 attempts with zero errors for a .611 attack effort.
