Devens, Pigza named Zaxby's Athletes of the Week

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University midfielder Henrique Devens and middle blocker Carli Pigza have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week.

Devens scored the winning goal with 47 seconds left in overtime as the Pioneers beat Newberry 2-1 on Saturday. He also scored a second-half goal in Tusculum's 2-0 win over Lees-McRae on Wednesday. Devens has scored a goal in four consecutive games, becoming the first Pioneer since Bruno Conceicao to score in four straight contests since 2008.

The Aracruz, Brazil native leads the Pioneers with four goals and an assist for nine points in six matches this season, and leads the team with 22 shot attempts and 12 shots on goal. Devens is tied for fourth in the South Atlantic Conference in goals and tied for seventh in points for the Pioneers, who are 2-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in SAC matches.

Pigza, a native of Fort Mill, South Carolina, led the Pioneers to a pair SAC sweeps over Queens and Catawba. She averaged 3.20 kills and one block per set in her three matches last week while posting a .373 hitting percentage.

The sophomore finished with 11 kills and two block assists on a .348 hitting percentage in the four-set non-conference loss to King. In the first sweep of the weekend, Pigza contributed nine kills alongside four block assists over Queens. Against Catawba, the middle blocker had her best showing of the season with 12 kills on a .478 clip and added four more block assists.

Through 12 matches this year, Pigza is averaging 1.93 kills and 0.60 blocks per set.
