GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University basketball forwards Caleb Hodnett and Yolizma Cupidan have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week. Both earn Athlete of the Week honors for a third time this season.
Hodnett, a junior from Adolphus, Ky., led the Pioneers to a 2-0 record last week with South Atlantic Conference wins over Mars Hill (81-73) and Lenoir-Rhyne (56-54). He recorded his third and fourth double-doubles of the season in the wins, scoring 21 points with 10 rebounds against Mars Hill and netted 20 points with 12 boards versus Lenoir-Rhyne. For the week Hodnett averaged 20.5 points, 11 rebounds per game while shooting 62.1 percent from the floor.
Hodnett, who was also named the AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week, leads the Pioneers in rebounding averaging 6.6 boards per contest (8th in SAC) and is fourth on the squad in scoring posting 10.6 points per game. He is also tops on the team with this .566 field goal percentage (7th in SAC).
The Tusculum (12-12, 8-8 SAC) men have won three of their last four games.
Cupidan, a senior from Ocoee, Florida, averaged 14.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game as the Pioneers defeated Mars Hill (67-32) and Lenoir-Rhyne (82-57) last week. Cupidan had 15 points and nine rebounds in the win over Mars Hill, and added 14 points and nine rebounds in the victory over Lenoir-Rhyne. Cupidan shot 50 percent (10-for-20) from the field and averaged 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
The Tusculum women improve to 18-6 overall and 10-6 in the South Atlantic Conference as the Pioneers have won four in a row and five of its last six.
