Coddington places 11th at NCAA Southeast Regional

OAKWOOD, Ga. --- Tusculum University senior Emily Coddington finished 11th in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Cross Country Championship meet Saturday morning at the UNG Cross Country Course.

With her finish, Coddington will be under consideration for a women's at-large berth to the NCAA Division II Championship when the field is announced Monday. The national meet will be held in Joplin, Missouri on Saturday, Nov. 18.

The Tusculum men finished 22nd out of 28 team2 at the regional meet, led by freshman Pau Valdepenas who finished in 29th place. The Pioneers had two women's competitors and were not eligible for placement in the team standings.

WOMEN'S RECAP
Coddington finished 11th overall with a time of 22.12.7 for the 6-kilometer race. She finished third among runners who were vying for one of two automatic berths to the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship.

Sophomore Inmaculada Delgado finished 74th overall in the field of 164 finishers with a time of 24:26.1.

Wingate won the team championship by placing four runners in the top 10, finishing with 30 points. Catawba, led by race winner Mikayla Jones, was second with 53 points with Flagler earning the third automatic bid to nationals with 85 points.

MEN'S RECAP
Valdepenas was the Pioneers' top finisher as he covered the 10-kilometer course in 31:05.9 for 29th place, followed by freshman Sam Shipp in 76th place in 32:59.8. Senior Antonio Aparicio took 136th overall with a time of 34:43.7, junior Ryan Drysch took 152nd place in 35:36.7, and freshman Simon Ray was 165th overall at 37:37.3. Sophomore Jerry Ricker was 177th with a time of 40:39.5.

Wingate swept the top seven finishers and had the minimum team score of 15 points to win the regional championship. Joining Wingate at nationals will be runner-up Augusta (76 points) and third-place Catawba (95 points).

Titouan Le Grix of Wingate won the individual region championship with a time of 28:45.0, finishing 10 seconds ahead of teammate Hamza Chahid.
