McMillen named AstroTurf SAC Runner of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University's Nicole McMillen has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Runner of the Week in women's cross country for the week ending Sept. 22, the conference office announced Tuesday.

McMillen finished second out of 122 runners at the Wingfoot XC Classic Friday night in Cartersville, Georgia, helping the Pioneers finish in a tie for fifth out of 14 teams in the meet. Her time of 17:37.0 was less than a second behind the race winner, after McMillen led at three of the four checkpoints along the 5-kilometer course.

For McMillen, it was her fourth top-five finish in five career races, following fifth-place results at last year's SAC Championship and NCAA Southeast Regional. Earlier this season, the graduate student from Pickering, Ontario claimed her first career victory by winning the Zaxby's Open by more than a minute in a course-record time of 18:58.0.

The Pioneers will return to competition at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday, Oct. 5 beginning at 9 a.m.
