Tusculum cross country hosts Zaxby's Open this Friday

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University cross country teams will host the 2018 Zaxby's Open this Friday evening at the Holston Home for Children Course in Greeneville.  The women's race will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the men's race at 6:40 p.m.

Teams representing 12 colleges and universities will be participating in this year's talented field, including NCAA Division II programs Tusculum, Lincoln Memorial University, Emmanuel (Ga.) College, King University, North Greenville University, Southern Wesleyan University and the University of Virginia's College at Wise.   Also scheduled to participate are teams representing Brevard College, Johnson University (Tenn.), Maryville College (Tenn.), Milligan College and Cleveland State Community College.

The entrance to the parking area of Holston Home Cross Country Course is located at 1485 TN-70, Greeneville, TN 37743.  Fans and participants are asked NOT to park at the main campus of Holston Home for Children.  Friday's event is free and open to the public.

The Tusculum men's team finished runner-up at last year's event while the TU women finished fourth.  LMU is the defending champion after sweeping the men's and women's meets last year.

Tusculum's Jackson Beason finished ninth at last year's men's event with a 5K time of 16:30.7 while TU teammate Will Cronin finished 12th with his time of 16:56.8.

Tusculum's top finisher in the 2017 women's meet was Alissa Furches as she posted a 5K time of 20:54.5, which was good enough for fourth place honors.
