Pioneers record fourth place finishes at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational

NEWTON, N.C. --- Five Tusculum cross country runners recorded top-10 finishes as the Pioneers placed fourth in both the men's and women's meets at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational.  The races were held at Southside Park, host site of next month's South Atlantic Conference Championship.

Tusculum's Alissa Furches was the Pioneers' top finisher in the women's 5K race as the Greeneville native carded a sixth place showing with a time of 19:53.00.  Sophomore Emily Stoklosa finished eighth with a time of 19:55.67 in her first race of the 2017 campaign.

Mackenzie Newsome logged a time of 20:48.87 to finish 20th, while Hayden Fobare was 29th with her time of 22:05.32.  Brooklyn Smith finished 30th at 22;07.32, while Kaitlyn MacDonald (32nd – 22:34.19), Makenzi Alley (33rd – 22:47.27) and Deondre Thomas (35th - 24:05.27) rounded out the scoring for the Pioneers.

Wingate won the women's team title as the Bulldogs had four runners finish in the top 10, including individual winner Clementine Archinard who logged a first place time of 18;52.51.  Wingate won with 31 points, while host Lenoir-Rhyne was runner-up with 45 points.  Catawba placed third with 73 points, followed by Tusculum (84) and Livingstone (149).

In the men's race, the freshmen duo of Zac Branham and Will Cronin finished seventh and eighth, respectively as the Pioneers finished with 82 total points.  Branham posted an 8K time of 26:56.60, while Cronin crossed the line at 27:02.63.  Jackson Beason also logged a top-10 finish as he finished with a time of 27:08.82 to place 10th.

Mason Snelson was 27th with 28:42.04, while Alex Haffcke finished with a time of 29:40.76 which was good enough for 37th place.  Will Noel (41st – 30:36.74), J'Quen Johnson (43rd - 31:12.21) and Isaac Hybarger (46th – 34:13.15) round out the finishers for the Pioneers.

Lenoir-Rhyne won the men's title with 39 points, while Wingate was second with 57 points.  Catawba was third with 69 points, followed by Tusculum, King (104) and Livingstone (176).

The Pioneers return to action on Sep. 29 when they compete at the Royals Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte, North Carolina.
