CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Tusculum College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Royals Cross Country Challenge Friday afternoon at McAlpine Creek Park. Both the Pioneer men and women finished in 31st place out of 40 schools that placed.

Tusculum will begin preparation for the South Atlantic Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 22 in Columbia, South Carolina.

MEN'S RESULTS
Jacob Cutshall was the top finisher for the Pioneers, as he crossed the line in 135th place with a time of 26:58.9 for the eight-kilometer course. J'Quen Johnson finished 184th with a time of 27:37.1, while Tommy Veerkamp was 199th in a time of 27:53.0. Matthew Mayes took 205th place in 27:59.2, and Will Noel was the Pioneers' fifth finisher as he was clocked in 29:49.2 for 296th place.

Lee University had four runners in the top 10 and won the team championship with 66 points, finishing ahead of Mount Olive (77) and Mars Hill (123). James Quattlebaum was the top finisher as the unattached runner was clocked in a time of 23:53.4, six seconds ahead of top team finisher Adam Craig of Mount Olive.

WOMEN'S RESULTS
For the fourth time in as many races this season, freshman Emily Stoklosa was Tusculum's top finisher as she crossed the line in 122nd place with a season-best time of 19:54.3 in the five-kilometer race. Makenzi Alley also had a season-best time for the Pioneers as she finished 178th in a time of 20:49.1 and Pauline Muiruri was 240th overall with a time of 21:57.

The final four Pioneer finishers all crossed within 30 seconds of each other, led by Deondra Thomas who was 254th in 22:14.1. Mackenzie Newsome placed 262nd in 22:23.4, Ashley Andrukonis finished 266th in 22:29.3 and Brooklyn Smith finished 272nd in 22:36.2.

Davidson placed all seven of its runners in the top 20 and won the team championship with 48 points, followed by Wake Forest (96) and host Queens (109). The individual winner was Emily Kearney of SCAD Atlanta who ran 17:32.7 to beat Leah Hanle of Mount Olive by five seconds.
