Stoklosa, Cutshall top finishers at Tusculum Open

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College men won their home meet, while the Pioneer women finished runner-up at the 2016 Tusculum Open, which was held at the Holston Homes Cross Country Course in Greeneville.

Competing with Carson-Newman, Milligan and Warren Wilson, the Pioneer men were the top finishers with a total of 39 points, while the TC women placed second with 35 points, one point shy of team winner Carson-Newman.

Individually, freshman Emily Stoklosa was the women's race winner as she recorded a time of 21:38.9 over the 5-kilometer course, while Jacob Cutshall placed first among affiliated runners in the men's meet with a time of 17:18.7.

MEN'S RESULTS
Cutshall finished second overall to Morgan Greene of King University, which did not field a full team of runners, but finished 20 seconds ahead of Sam Morkal-Williams of Warren Wilson to earn the number-one position in the points. J'Quen Johnson joined Cutshall in the top five as he finished fourth overall in 17:39.8, with freshman Thomas Veerkamp placing eighth in a time of 18:01.6.

Freshman Matthew Mayes took 14th overall with a time of 18:42.6, while Will Noel was the fifth runner to finish for the Pioneers as he crossed the line 18th in 19:46.9. Other finishers for the Pioneers were Jesse Harrell, who took 25th in 24:47.2, and Jonathan Dennis who was 26th in a time of 25:49.0.

Tusculum finished ahead of Carson-Newman, which also had three runners in the top 10 and finished with 52 points. Warren Wilson tallied 58 points as a team, with Milligan earning 63 points in the standings.

WOMEN'S RESULTS
Stoklosa ran 21:38.9 over the course to earn the overall victory by 22 seconds over runner-up Sky McCarter of Carson-Newman. The freshman, who placed fifth in her first collegiate meet last Saturday at Montreat, was one of three Pioneers to finish in the top 10.

Makenzi Alley came home fourth for the Pioneers with a time of 22:37.6, while Mackenzie Newsome also cracked the top 10 as she finished seventh in 22:55.1. Also scoring for the Pioneers were Ashley Andrukonis, who was 11th in 23:46.0, along with Deondra Thomas who took 12th with a time of 23:51.4. Brooklyn Smith was the final finisher for the Pioneers, placing 20th with a time of 26:17.1.

Carson-Newman put all five of their scorers in the top 10, but edged out the Pioneers by just one point (34-35) for the team championship. Milligan finished third with 59 points, with Warren Wilson in fourth with 92 points.

The Pioneers will return to action on Saturday, October 1 when they participate in the Greater Louisville Classic.
