Pioneers to host Tusculum Cross Country Open Friday at Holston Homes in Greeneville

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College cross country teams will be hosting the 2016 Tusculum Open this Friday afternoon at the Holston Homes Course in Greeneville.

Joining the Pioneer men and women's teams will be Carson-Newman University, Milligan College and Warren Wilson College as they will be running on the 5,000-meter layout. 

The women's race will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's meet at 6 p.m.

The Pioneer men and women each finished in fourth place at last weekend's Hyder-McMahill Invitational in Black Mountain, North Carolina.

In last Saturday's women's race, Tusculum freshman Emily Stoklosa was the top finisher as she finished fifth with a 5K time of 21:11.2.  Makenzi Alley crossed the finish line 13th in 22:11.6 while Mackenzie Newsome also reached the top-20 in the final standings coming home 20th in a time of 22:34.3.  Rounding out last Saturday's scoring for Tusculum were freshman Brooklyn Smith, who was 28th in 23:41.2, and Deondra Thomas, who placed one spot behind in 29th with a time of 23:46.8. Ashley Andrukonis finished 30th in a time of 23:52.4, and Pauline Muiruri crossed the line 34th in 24:01.4.  The duo of Lillian Wallace (27:44.2) and Emma Hicks (28:07.9) finished 47th and 48th, respectively for Tusculum.

In the men's race last weekend, Jacob Cutshall led the Pioneers with a seventh-place showing in the 5K race, posting a time of 17:14.5.  Freshman Thomas Veerkamp joined Cutshall in the top 10, finishing ninth in 17:22.5.  J'Quen Johnson was 21st as he posted a time of 17:50.0, followed by freshman Matthew Mayes in 32nd place with a time of 18:39.4. Will Noel was the fifth scorer for the Pioneers, coming across in 19:45.8 and taking 45th place, while Jesse Harrell rounded out the TC finishers with his time of 24:30.1.
