Catawba avenges last weekend's loss to Tusculum

SALISBURY, N.C. --- The Catawba Indians avenged last weekend's loss to Tusculum on Saturday (Oct. 18) afternoon, sweeping the Pioneers. The teams met just eight days ago with TU winning in similar fashion.

The Pioneers (7-10, 5-6 SAC) are on a three-match skid after falling to the Indians (7-8, 4-6 SAC) by scores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-16.

Sofia Beard and Lillie Kate Rogers both reached double-digits with 12 and 11 kills, respectively, for Catawba. The duo of Haley Moffett (19) and Tamie Boudot (17) combined for 36 assists, while Rogers landed four service aces. Libero Riley Hill scooped up 27 digs as Rogers and Sydney Wattles were both credited with a pair of blocks at the net.

Mackenzie Land led the Pioneer offense once again, tallying nine kills on a .381 hitting percentage. Karris Oller followed closely with an errorless eight strikes on a .444 clip. Rounding out the offense were Grace VanZwieten (6), Victoria Church (4), Isabella Bianchin (2), Adreana Lee (2), Jaida Alvin (2), and Taylor Sanders (1). Church dished out 24 assists, while Land accounted for half of TU's aces. Land also had a career outing defensively with 17 digs. At the net, Bianchin had a hand in all three Tusculum blocks.

Catawba hit .316 as a team with 46 kills and nine errors on 117 total attempts. Tusculum hit .176 with 34 kills, 13 errors, and 119 total attacks. The Indians led the Pioneers in assists (43-34), service aces (6-4), and digs (61-54). The teams tied with three total blocks.

Tusculum has nearly a week to regroup before hosting Newberry on Friday (Oct. 24) night at 7 p.m.
