Pioneers Split Season Series with Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Tusculum University women's volleyball team fell to the Royals on Friday night after sweeping the North Carolina team in the first meeting of 2019.

The Royals (13-4, 10-2 SAC) won by scores of 26-24, 24-26, 25-16, 25-16 to down the Pioneers (8-9, 6-6 SAC). 

Queens' Casey Tarvin shined, recording 24 kills and 17 digs on the night. Logan Witt contributed 10 kills and five block assists. Mallory Swarts dished out 36 assists while notching five service aces. Libero JayCee Jones finished with a team-high 18 digs. Lindsay Elmore was credited with five total blocks as well (one solo, four assists). 

For the Pioneers, Emiah Burrowes led the way with 13 kills, while Gabby Gray notched nine. Sydney Byrd rotated in for six kills on a .357 clip. The setting due of Elise Carmichael and Catherine Clingan were fairly even, recording 22 and 21 assists, respectively. Carmichael and Carly Sosnowski collected a pair of aces each with Carli Pigza and Clingan recording the remaining two. Sosnowski finished with a match-high 22 digs, Gray dug up 20 attempts, and Burrowes added 18. Defensively, Tatum Thornton, Aubrey Hawkins, and Pigza were each credited with two block assists.

Queens finished the match with a .201 hitting percentage with 48 kills, 16 errors, and 159 total attempts. TU tallied 50 kills, 27 errors and 178 attacks for a .129 hitting percentage. The Royals tallied 10 total blocks and collected 89 digs, while the visiting Pioneers finished with 83 digs and five total blocks.

Tusculum continues its SAC road swing, facing the Catawba Indians at 5pm on Saturday.
