Tornado Blow Away Pioneers

BRISTOL, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to an in-state rival on Tuesday night at King.

The Tornado (5-5) won by scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19 to down the Pioneers (4-6).

King's Tristyn Lozano shined with a match-high 19 kills, alongside nine digs. Setter Keri Ricker tossed up 36 assists, while four Tornado collected double-figure digs. Kayley Holtzclaw led the defense at the net with three block assists. 

For the Pioneers, Emiah Burrowes led the way with 13 kills and Carli Pigza also reached double figures with 11 on a .348 hitting clip. Aubrey Hawkins had a strong showing with nine kills and no errors for a .360 average. Taylor Blythe hit over .300 on her way to seven kills. Elise Carmichael led the setters with 26 assists and Carly Sosnowski scooped up a match-high 23 digs. Gabby Gray (17) and Burrowes (13) racked up numerous digs as well. At the net, Tatum Thornton led the way with three block assists. Blythe, Gray, and Pigza each had two total blocks to their credit.

King finished the match with a .221 hitting percentage with 48 kills, 18 errors, and 136 total attempts. TU tallied 53 kills, 21 errors and 153 attacks for a .209 hitting percentage. The Tornado tallied nine total blocks and collected 71 digs, while the visiting Pioneers finished with 64 digs and 11 total blocks.

Tusculum returns home for a SAC weekend series, starting with Queens at 7pm on Friday.
