Blythe Shines in LMU's Sweep of Pioneers

HARROGATE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's volleyball team dropped its match to in-state conference rival Lincoln Memorial on Friday night. The Railsplitters have now won the last four matches against the Pioneers.

The Railsplitters (1-3, 1-0 SAC) won by scores of 25-21, 26-24, 25-19 to complete the sweep over the Pioneers (2-3, 0-1 SAC).

LMU setter Emily Walter led the charge with 35 assists, 14 digs, and four service aces while Lindsey Nartker was the lone Railsplitter to record double-digit kills with 10. As the libero, Sarah Jones scooped up 22 digs in the winning effort. 

Sophomore Taylor Blythe was near unstoppable in the loss. She recorded 11 kills on 18 swings with no errors for a .611 hitting percentage, alongside a solo block and a block assist. Freshman Emiah Burrowes was second on the team with eight kills with two aces and nine digs. Britney Shawel picked up her first collegiate start at libero, racking up 28 digs and a team-high three aces. Elise Carmichael and Alyssa Rojas collected 21 and 15 assists at setter, respectively.

Lincoln Memorial finished the match with a .224 hitting percentage with 43 kills, 15 errors, and 125 total attempts. TU tallied 39 kills, 16 errors and 128 attacks for a .180 hitting percentage. The two team had fairly even defensive marks with the home team collecting 64 digs and four total blocks, while the visiting Pioneers finished with 61 digs and six total blocks.

Tusculum returns to action on Saturday the 14th at Carson-Newman to continue its search for the first conference win of 2019 at 2pm.
