AUSTIN, Texas --- Tusculum setter Shannon Murphy has been named to the 2017 NCAA Division II Academic All-District 3 Volleyball first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Murphy, a senior from Tinley Park, Illinois, has a 3.83 cumulative grade point average while majoring in biology / pre-medicine.  She advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot which will be announced next month.

Murphy guided the Tusculum offense dishing out a SAC-best 1,204 assists this year. Her 10.03 assists per set average is fourth in the league while her 39 service aces are the second-most in the SAC. She averaged 0.32 aces per set (9th in the SAC) and led Tusculum with 22 double-doubles (assists/digs).

Playing in just three full seasons, Murphy is ranked fifth in program history in career assists with 2,358 helpers, while her 7.44 career assists per set average is also fifth in the TC record book. Her assist tally this year (1204) are the seventh-most in a Tusculum single-season.

Murphy is a member of the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List.

Members of the CoSIDA NCAA II Academic All-District 3 Team are selected from nominees representing all colleges and universities in the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt Conference and Conference Carolinas.
