Born selected as TSWA College Volleyball Player of the Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum outside hitter Cassie Born has been named the College Volleyball Player of the Week by the Tennessee Sportswriters Association.                    

Born, a junior from Horse Shoe, North Carolina, averaged 4.31 kills and 3.92 digs in leading the Pioneers to a 2-1 record in their three South Atlantic Conference contests last week.

Born recorded career-bests with 26 kills and 26 digs in Tusculum's 3-2 home win over Lincoln Memorial last week. She posted a .266 hitting percentage to go along with her 27.5 points against the Railsplitters.

She hit .360 with 12 kills and five digs in TC's 3-0 loss at Lenoir-Rhyne last Friday.  Born and the Pioneers bounced back with a 3-2 victory at Catawba on Saturday. In that match, she tallied 18 kills, 20 digs, two assists and a service ace.

She is averaging 3.48 kills per set this year which is the sixth best average in the league.  Her 115 total kills are second in the SAC, while also averaging 3.27 digs and leads the team with 128 points.

Earlier on Tuesday, Born was also named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week.

Tusculum (4-4, 2-2 SAC) begins a three-match home-stand Tuesday against Mars Hill followed by league matches this weekend against Wingate (Fri.) and Queens (Sat.).
