WINGATE, N.C. --- Wingate's Abby Saehler recorded 14 kills and a .312 hitting percentage as the Bulldogs swept visiting Tusculum College 3-0 to claim the outright South Atlantic Conference championship Saturday afternoon at Cuddy Arena.
Wingate (26-5, 18-4 SAC) won the match by scores of 25-21, 25-18, 25-18 and swept the season series over the Pioneers.
Wingate claims the top-seed in next week's SAC Tournament, while Tusculum, despite the loss claims the eighth and final spot in the league postseason. Tusculum will return to Cuddy Arena on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for a SAC Quarterfinal match with the top-seeded Bulldogs.
Wingate finished the match with 47 kills in 117 attempts with 14 errors for a .282 hitting percentage. TC hit .111 with 30 kills, led Sarah Bouley who posted nine kills and a 12 digs.
Hallie Zumack tallied 15 assists while Shannon Murphy added 10 to go along with her six digs.
