Catawba sweeps Tusculum volleyball 3-0

SALISBURY, N.C. --- Bri Howard recorded eight kills, five blocks and a .444 hitting percentage in leading the Catawba College volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep over visiting Tusculum College Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym.

The Catawba Indians (12-10, 10-7 SAC) won the match by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-22 to avenge last month's 3-0 loss to the Pioneers (11-14, 6-11 SAC) and split the season series.

Catawba finished the match hitting .269 as a team, while recording 12 team blocks and limited the Pioneers to hit .092 in the match.

Tusculum's Rachel Garnett tallied nine kills and a .450 hitting percentage, while teammate Laryssa Welch tallied seven kills and a .462 attack average.

Catawba setter Rachel Stanford posted 35 of her team's 40 assists, while also posting eight digs, four kills and four blocks for the home team.

Tusculum setter Hallie Zumack finished with 27 assists and 10 digs for her double-double, while Sabrina Schlueger and Melissa Mazur finished with 14 and 10 digs, respectively.

Tusculum returns to Pioneer Arena on Tuesday night to begin three-match homestand as they host in-state foe and South Atlantic Conference front-runner Lincoln Memorial University. Match-time is 7 p.m.
