Mazur, Garnett earn SAC volleyball honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College's Melissa Mazur and Rachel Garnett have been named to the 2015 All-South Atlantic Conference volleyball team announced league officials Thursday.

Mazur was named the first team libero, while Garnett earned All-SAC second team accolades.

Mazur, a freshman from Chicago, Illinois, currently leads all three NCAA divisions averaging 6.84 digs per set. Mazur, who was also named to the SAC All-Freshmen Team, has tallied 711 digs in 104 sets played this season. Her digs per set average is the third-best in program history and 10th in NCAA Division II history (25-point format, 2008-present). The 711 total digs are the fourth-most by a Pioneer in a season.

Mazur recorded double-double digit digs in all 28 matches this year, including a season-high 44 in a five-set victory at Lander, which are the fifth-most in a 5-set contest in program history. Her 29 kills at Lenoir-Rhyne are tied for the sixth-most in a three-set match, while her 28 digs at Newberry are tied for ninth-most in a three-set contest.

Garnett, a junior outside hitter from Cincinnati, Ohio, led the Pioneers averaging 2.86 digs per set (9th in SAC) and posted a team-high .241 hitting percentage. She earns All-SAC accolades for a second straight season, a year after earning honorable mention recognition in 2014.

The 2013 SAC Freshman of the Year posted double-figure kills in 15 matches, including a season-best 20 in a four-set contest against Francis Marion. She tallied 19 kills against Lenoir-Rhyne which are tied for the fifth-most in a three-set match in school history. Garnett finished her junior campaign with 292 kills (7th in SAC), 68 digs, 46 blocks and 317.5 points. Garnett is averaging 2.49 kills per set with a .234 hitting percentage in her three-year career at Tusculum.

Tusculum was declared SAC Statistical Champions for team digs per set, averaging 19.30 which is sixth in the nation (NCAA II). TC's 2,026 digs are presently 33rd in the country.
