Volleyball stays hot with 3-1 win at Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. --- Sarah Bouley and Hannah Berling each recorded a double-double in leading the Tusculum College volleyball team to a 3-1 win at Mars Hill University Tuesday night in South Atlantic Conference action.

The Pioneers (11-11, 8-8 SAC) level their overall and league records as TC won the match by scores of 25-18, 25-23, 23-25 and 25-22.

Bouley finished the match with 14 kills and 13 digs to go along with her two blocks, while Berling dished out a match-high 42 assists, while making 21 digs in the victory. Madison Shumaker added 12 kills and hit .357 on the evening and Rachel Garnett contributed 11 kills and three blocks.

TC's Miriah Lewis tallied six kills, but led all players with seven blocks, including four solos as the Pioneers swept the season series over the Lions (6-16, 4-11 SAC) and have won four of their last five contests.

Defensively, the Pioneers finished the match with 110 digs, including 31 by the NCAA Division II national leader in TC freshman Melissa Mazur. Andrea Amettis also made 18 digs and served up three aces in the Tusculum victory.

Mars Hill's Rebecca Butler finished with 14 kills, 27 digs and six blocks, while Lauren Hochstetler and Elizabeth Kaeser made 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Tusculum returns home this weekend for a pair of South Atlantic Conference matches. TC will host Catawba College on Friday night at 7 p.m. for the Pioneers' annual Dig Pink Night. Tusculum will finish the weekend on Saturday with a noon contest against Queens University of Charlotte.
