ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The pairings for the 2008 Food Lion
South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Tournament have been announced
and Tusculum College will be the No. 4 seed and open against
fifth-seeded Newberry College. That quarterfinal match will be
played this Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Stanford Arena on the campus
of Mars Hill College, the host site of this year's tournament.
The winner of that match will advance to Friday's semifinal
against the winner of the Wingate University/Brevard College match
at 1 p.m. The SAC Tournament championship will be held on Saturday
at 11:30 a.m. from Stanford Arena. The winner receives an
automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Tusculum (21-10) finished fourth in the regular season standings
with a 9-7 league slate, tied for the second most SAC wins in
school history.
Tusculum and Newberry split their two regular season meetings. The
Pioneers won in Greeneville 3-0 in September, while Newberry
captured a four-set win over TC last month in Newberry, S.C. This
year's quarterfinal draw will mark the first time the two teams
have met in the SAC Tournament.
Tusculum will wrap up its regular season on Monday when it hosts
Montreat College for a 7 p.m. match at Pioneer Arena. TC will honor
seniors Heather MacArthur, Kelsey Hayden and Brittney Oblinger
prior to Monday night's match.
