ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College swept this week's
South Atlantic Conference Volleyball awards. Sophomore outside
hitter Katie Luebke was named the SAC Player of
the Week, while rookie libero Erika Garcia
garnered SAC Specialist of the Week accolades.
Luebke, a native of Bellefontaine, Ohio, earns this honor for the
second time this season. The 2007 All-SAC selection averaged 4.43
kills and 2.71 digs per set as Tusculum posted a perfect 4-0
record. She also tallied a team-best .336 hitting percentage during
the four-match span, while also tallying five service aces.
Luebke accounted for 25 kills and eight digs in Tusculum's 3-1 SAC
win at Lincoln Memorial. She followed that with back-to-back
double-double performances at the Virginia Intermont quad-match. In
TC's 3-0 victory over Milligan, she posted 16 kills and 11 digs and
a .379 hitting percentage. The Bellefontaine High School graduate
added a dozen kills and 16 digs in a four-set triumph over Meredith
College. She ended the week strong with a .412 attack percentage in
a 3-0 victory over Virginia Intermont. In that match, Luebke
finished with nine kills and three digs.
Garcia, a freshman from Dayton, Ohio, becomes the third different
Pioneer this year to be named SAC Specialist of the Week
(Heather LeMay, Peyton
Colclough). Garcia averaged 5.29 digs per set to lead the
Pioneer defense last week.
The Beavercreek High School product tallied 20 digs against LMU
and recorded another 20-dig effort against Milligan. She also
posted double-figure digs in victories over Meredith (19) and
Virginia Intermont (15).
Tusculum has three SAC matches this week. The Pioneers host Mars
Hill this Tuesday at 7 p.m. On Friday night, Tusculum visits
Newberry for a 7 p.m. contest and the Pioneers will complete the
league trifecta with a 5 p.m. match at Wingate Saturday
afternoon.
Tuesday's match has been designated "Dig For the Cure" Night with
all proceeds from the match going towards Breast Cancer Awareness
and Research.
The South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Player and Specialist of
the Week are selected by a vote of the league's nine sports
information directors.
