GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Head coach Michael
Robinson and the Tusculum College volleyball program has
designated this Tuesday's home match versus Mars Hill College as
"Dig For the Cure" Night at Pioneer Arena beginning at 7 p.m.
Tusculum is one of many colleges and universities in the country
that have dedicated a home match to raise money for breast cancer
research.
This marks the third year that the Pioneers have participated in
this program. This year's "Dig For the Cure" Night will be held at
the home match during Tusculum's Homecoming Week festivities.
Participating schools designate one home volleyball match in
October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Individual sponsors pledge money per dig earned by their team in
the match, or can make a flat donation to the cause. The money
raised goes directly to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
Foundation's local affiliate in their community.
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was established in
1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G.
Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. Today, the
Foundation is an international organization with a network of
volunteers working through local affiliates and events like the
Komen Race for the Cure® to eradicate breast cancer as a
life-threatening disease.
