Pioneers collect 6-1 victory at Lincoln Memorial

HARROGATE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over Lincoln Memorial University in South Atlantic Conference competition Wednesday afternoon.

The 38th-ranked Pioneers (9-4, 3-1 SAC) rallied to win the doubles point in a tiebreaker from the Railsplitters (7-9, 1-4 SAC) then won the first five singles matches to claim the victory.

In doubles, the Pioneers dropped the first completed match but came back to claim the point. Ylva Frafjord Landa and Paulina Loretz defeated Carla Ramonet and Mar Garcia Bucosa 7-5 at flight two, and Thilda Danielsson and Johanna Selde beat Rosalie Carrier-Dulac and Lucie Palud 7-6 (8-6) at flight three for a 1-0 Tusculum lead.

The Pioneers won the first three singles matches in straight sets to clinch the victory, as Valentina Loretz beat Adriana Pellizzari 6-1, 6-1 at flight two, Paulina Loretz downed Tania Sfilio 7-5, 6-1 at flight four, and Johanna Palacio took a 7-6 (10-8), 6-3 win from Sophia Valentina Aray at flight six.

At flight three, Landa rallied for a 0-6, 6-4, (10-6) super-tiebreaker win over Ramonet, and Elodie Baechler earned a 7-5, 5-7, (14-12) victory at flight one over Carrier-Dulac for a 6-0 Tusculum lead. Lincoln Memorial's lone point came in a pro-set tiebreaker at flight five.

The Pioneers host Limestone on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
