Pioneers earn singles sweep at Eagle Invitational

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's tennis team competed in the Eagle Invitational at Carson-Newman University on Friday.

The Pioneers swept its six singles matches in straight sets against Bluefield State University, and in doubles play won four of six contests against the host Eagles and the Big Blues.

Against Bluefield State, Leonie Floeth was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Shreya Chakraborty, Elodie Baechler beat Juliana Jimenez 6-2, 6-2 and Valentina Loretz earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Adriana Torroba. Paulina Loretz downed Ghita Courdi 6-2, 6-0, Johanna Palacion won 6-3, 6-2 over Virginia Zanotti and Johanna Selde defeated Paulina Moreno 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles against Bluefield State, Baechler and Valentina Loretz won 6-1 over Jimenez and Torroba, and Paulina Loretz teamed with Selde for a 6-2 victory over Zanotti and Moreno. In doubles against Carson-Newman, Baechler and Loretz won 8-7 (7-5) over Natasha Forrest and Summer Reeves, with Floeth teaming with Ylva Frafjord Landa for an 8-6 win over Julia Speiser and Leah McBride.

Tusculum wraps up its fall schedule on Saturday, Oct. 21 when the Pioneers host North Greenville at 1 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
