Pioneers head to South Carolina for ITA Regional this weekend

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Members of the Tusculum University women's tennis team will compete at the ITA Division II Southeast Regional Championship, to be held this weekend at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina.

Juniors Paulina Loretz and Valentina Loretz will be joined by sophomores Tabitha Howe and Leonie Floeth and freshman Ylva Frafjord Landa in singles play at the ITA Regional. Landa was the lone Pioneer to receive a bye into the round of 64, with the other four players slated for opening-round matches Friday afternoon.

Paulina Loretz went 2-0 for the Pioneers at the Lincoln Memorial Invitational earlier this fall, and had a 1-2 record at last year's ITA Regional. The San Mateo Atenco, Mexico native has a 30-18 record in her Pioneer career.

Valentina Loretz owns a 3-0 record following the opening weekend of the fall season, and will be making her ITA Regional debut this weekend. Also a native of San Mateo Atenco, Mexico, Loretz holds a 24-11 career record in singles play.

Howe will also be playing at the ITA Regional for the first time, after earning second-team All-South Atlantic Conference in singles last season. The Sevenoaks, England native has a 12-11 record in singles in her Tusculum career.

Floeth earned a pair of tiebreaker victories at last year's regional, and is off to a 1-1 start this fall. The native of Toenisvorst, Germany carries a 16-15 career singles record into action this weekend.

Landa, who hailes from Sandnes, Norway, won two of her three singles matches to open her career at the LMU Invitational and was given a bye into the second round of singles play at the ITA Regional.

Tusculum will field two doubles teams at the regional, as Paulina Loretz will play with Howe and Landa will team with Floeth. Loretz and Howe lost their only match together this fall, while Landa and Floeth are 1-1 as a duo.

The first two rounds of singles will be contested on Friday, with the round of 32 scheduled for Saturday afternoon. The round of 16 and quarterfinals will be played Sunday afternoon, with the semifinals on Monday morning and the finals Monday afternoon. A consolation bracket for players who lose their opening match will be held Saturday.
